Steven Amick, Executive Director
Steven Amick is the Executive Director of the League of California Afterschool Providers, which
convenes and coordinates the fifty largest state and federally funded grantees to inform policies and administrative decisions affecting
the field. Previously, he served as the Region 9 Lead for Before and After School Programs, responsible to provide training and technical
assistance to over 550 schools in San Diego, Orange and Imperial Counties, serving over 50,000 students daily. He has over fifteen
years after school experience working at every level of direct service and administration. Prior to joining the San Diego County Office
of Education in 2003, he served four years as the Administrator of San Diego’s “6 to 6” Program, and seven years as an after school
program director with the YMCA of San Diego County. He has been an integral leader in the expansion of the San Diego County After
School Consortium, which now operates in 310 schools with an annual budget of over $57 million.
He is the Vice Chair of
the National Afterschool Association’s Board of Directors, and an Ambassador Emeritus of the Afterschool Alliance. He serves as the
Co-Chair of the California Afterschool Network Executive Committee, and previously served as the designee of the Office of the Secretary
of Education to the California Advisory Committee on Before and After School Programs.

Denise Wells, Marketing and Communications Specialist
Denise
Wells is the Marketing and Communications Specialist for the League of California Afterschool Providers. She has been involved
in the non-profit industry for the last 15 years in a variety of both volunteer and staff positions. She worked for a number
of years in Santa Barbara County as a crisis intervention counselor and trainer/coordinator of volunteers, starting in a volunteer
capacity herself and then moving into a staff position. She has also volunteered her time for animal shelters, safety shelters
for women and children, as well as senior services.
Denise earned a Master's Degree in Literature and Writing Studies
from California State University, San Marcos and was Lead Editor of the Campus Literary Magazine. She currently teaches online
writing and English courses at University of Phoenix, volunteers in her spare time preparing a monthly newsletter for the Jewish
Family Service UTC Senior Center and, until recently, teaching a memoir writing class at the Jewish Family Service College Avenue
Senior Center.
Our Fiscal Agent - LA's BEST is a nationally recognized after school education, enrichment
and recreation program serving more than 26,000 children with the greatest needs and fewest resources throughout the City of Los Angeles.
LA's BEST After School Enrichment Program provides a safe haven for children, ages 5 to 12, at 180 elementary school sites each day
during the critical hours after school at no cost to parents. Established in 1988, LA's BEST is a partnership including the City of
Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Unified School District and the private sector, operating with a combined annual budget of over $41 million.
In addition, LA's BEST collaborates with more than 100 community-based organizations to provide diverse and meaningful activities
for the program.
