AB 434 (Block) Passes the Assembly

June 4, 2009

Dear Colleagues,

AB 434 (Block) seeks to clarify that the salaries of after-school program site coordinators who spend at least 85% of their time at the program site should be considered direct service expenditures, and temporarily reduce, from 33% to 15%, the match required for ASES programs through June 30, 2011. This bill passed the Assembly yesterday by a vote of 52 to 25. The bill was amended in appropriations to reduce the percentage of the match that can be claimed for facility use from 25% to 15%. Both this bill and AB 983 (Skinner) will now move to the Senate and will be heard by the Senate Education Committee on or before July 8, 2009.

Yours in Partnership,

Steven Amick
Executive Director
