SB 798 (DeSaulnier) Passes Senate Appropriations

January 21, 2010

Dear Colleagues,

SB 798 (DeSaulnier), which was placed on the Senate Appropriations Committee suspense file on May 11, 2009, was released today and passed by a vote of 6 to 3. The bill was amended to remove provisions that were perceived to impose cost pressures on the General Fund. The new version sets aside 15% of all 21st CCLC funding that is allocated to California in excess of the amount allocated last year for summer programs. This bill is introduced in anticipation of increased federal funding for the 21st CCLC program, and aims to provide opportunities for ASES grantees to augment their programs by extending services to this critical time period.

It is expected that the bill will be taken to the Senate Floor for approval as early as next Tuesday.

Yours in Partnership,

Steven Amick
Executive Director
